I Am Such a Geek

I have been goofing around with movie samples in a lot of my dub sounds. kinda silly when you think about it. Messing with tracks and loops always makes me smile. Tr-909, Tr 707 are becoming more of a staple of my sound. Need to get some bent gear to make more sounds.

Electronic Threads

Here comes the third record from Pailo featuring a ton of electronic, analog gear.
The excitement @ Outofthebag is through the roof! Good times. Pailo has also
been in the studio tracking with a few other bands around Austin, those releases
happening later this year. 2010 has some great things in store. Check the home
widget to listen to the newest songs, and go to the itunes store to support our cause.

Finding the Right Sounds.

Sometimes having a ton of toys is great, but finding just the right
sound is really a hard thing to do. You set yourself up with options
to make it a great experience. When it comes down to it, you still
have to design your sound. Regardless if someone says, “They have
that instrument, and it makes that sound.” you still have to shape it
your own way.

New sounds

make me inspired. The pads, the ease of programing (though having a
pg800 would make this easier) the keyboard is built. Taking it apart
always makes me appreciate old craftsmanship. Things are definitely
not made like they used to, from capacitors to circuits to motherboards.
New keyboards (i will not mention names) have a 3x5 inch board lacking
much other than three chips and a screen. Old boards which are 8x8 have
chips the size of your hand, and capacitors the size of d batteries.
Thats why things will never sound analog again. It’s a dying art.
Collecting it can only make you appreciate the design, and parts, and
sound of anything make before 1986.

With the DX7 and an arsenal of new drums, it’s beginning to look
like another album. New software too, but in the end I always use
the hardware. That is the reason i have a nice mix between digital
and analog synths in the studio. Any sound can be achieved.

Crazy Journey.....

with the Propellerhead people. From Rebirth, to Reason to Record.
Rebirth was the reason I wanted a Mac in the first place. Jquest was
doing some killer stuff, and I was using MC-303 via Roland and a
Tascam Tape 4 track. It was when the room was filled with 5 hand
drums, and some shakers, and different acoustic instruments.
Also two pretty inexpensive acoustic guitars (both of which have been destroyed). 1998.

After Reading and Hearing.....

So much about vintage synths, I had to get my hands on a
few. It has led me to believe that they are organic, and full of
life. I have told people my modern digital virus c desktop has
a soul. The Prophet 600 is another analog synth with soul.
The more I hear Anthony’s novation I hear it’s soul. Truth is,
each one is very unique with it’s own sound, and character
that makes you feel a very appealing way. A way that influences
you to create as much music as possible.

What a great day. Out of the Bag turns 10, and releases work from
Pailo on almost every major online music retailer. There have been 2
other albums recorded, the second one has been mastered, and is
going to be released online in the next two weeks.

The songs on the player are the first electronic singles released in
2008 by Pailo, and the acoustic one’s are part of the new album
“From The Ground Up” released October 27. There will be another
album released in late November which is being mastered now in
Out Of The Bag Studios. Those songs will surface on the widget
in the next few weeks.

Time and time again......

I sit down at the computer to mix and finalize my music. Creating
my sound. It takes forever for me to finish a song, to like it, and to
mix it down proper. The best way in my opinion is by letting it sit
for a while before you try and finish it. Forget what it sounds like,
put it away for at least a month. That is enough time for me to allow
the song to become new again. Learned the trick from a good
friend who made one crazy album. He sat away from it for a few
months, and then went back to it with fresh ears.

FIrst Album Release.

After working on a g5 night and day to learn audio software, you
become pretty crazy. Love working on music, but translating that
to the record is always a challenge. All of these tunes were written
at the same time in the studio through a two month period.
Oct-November 2004. They were put on www.Outofthebag.org in
early 2006 after being mastered in Austin TX. They have been on
OTB’s site since then and have been since removed for the release
on www.tunecore.com, itunes, www.amazoncom, and napster on

Ableton Certified.

Pailo has become one of the few certified instructors of Ableton
Live in the U.S. It’s been an exciting time for Outofthebag Studios
and for Pailo. Teaching Live to students all over Austin TX. Joseph
states, “With the release of the APC40, and the announcement for
Max for Live, it’s a great time to be involved with such a major
software innovator. It’s opening the doorway for unlimited possibilities. “

Lunchbox.
15/04/09 17:20
Trying to get all my stuff together. Using a lunchbox now for the
front end saves space. Highly recommend checking out all the
options for lunchbox’s. They are great for self producing musicians,
engineers, and people who want to mix and master. There are so
many options to choose from it gets exciting hunting for good pre’s,
eq’s, and compressors. The best one’s are not always brand name.
Keep looking for good deals on ebay, and search DIY 500. You can
build your own for little compared to what the big names charge for them.

Synths Again.
15/02/09 17:20
Something about the fatness of an analog. There is nothing like it
in the world. Once you start, you just want to keep adjusting the
frequencies, and turning the filters. Its something that keeps you
up at night thinking about space, and darkness, and far away places. I
ts a great mental addiction when added to any studio. Don’t get me
wrong, there are some great new plug-ins, but none quite get you there.
They have more control than there old predecessors, only not the fatness. One thing you will never be able to recreate.
